While first of April in the rest of the world is Fools day - for us in Latvia it was Pūpolsvētdiena, literally, Pussy Willow Sunday! :) Children are often woken that morning with ritualistic swats of a willow branch to bring health and scare away all illnesses.
"Apaļš kā pūpols, apaļš kā pūpols, slimībā ārā, veselība iekšā!"
(Rhyme: Be round as a pussy willow - ilnesses out and health inside!)
